The iPhone is a multimedia phone which is marketed and designed by Apple Inc. This internet enabled mobile device is endowed with a huge multi-touch screen with extremely high resolution along with virtual buttons and keyboards. iPhone combines the capabilities of an iPod, a cellular phone, a tablet pc and a digital camera. The iPhone was announced on 9th January 2007 by Apple Inc and was first launched in United States on 29th June 2007. The iPhone never failed to meet up the expectations of people with its splendid technological features. In the first 30 hours of the launch, 270,000 iPhones were sold. It was named the Invention of the year by the Time’s Magazine in 2007.

It weighs only 135 grams and has a small casing at 115 x 61 x 11.6 mm. Unlike many other smartphones, an iPhone doesn’t have to use a stylus or a hardware keyboard. The user simply uses multiple drags and taps in order to navigate through the mobile adaptation of Apple’s OS X operating system. Its functions include portable media player, camera phone and text messaging along with visual voicemail.The music player is almost identical to an iPod. It also supports internet enabled services such as web browsing, Wi-Fi connectivity and e-mail. iPhone has international capabilities and work on the quad band technology employing the use of GSM standard. It supports EDGE technology which allows fast internet connections. iPhone uses internal lithium-ion battery which supports talk time of almost 5 hours and about 16 hours of uninterrupted music play. Like iPod, iPhone’s are available in 4GB or 8GB versions and are capable of synchronizing data with the user’s laptop or personal computer. The phone is compatible with the Microsoft’s Windows operating systems including the vista. iPhone also supports photo address book which allows the user to call or send a text by just clicking on the person’s picture. Other functions that make these phones the best buy include: call conferencing, automatically generated favourite call list, call holding and call merging.
